*DEVELOPED BY ME* Optics in Glass

An exploration into the following aspects of the materiality of glass –
Refraction and diffraction (bending of light),
Interference (layering and filtering),
Reflection (mirroring),
Projection (illustration and transmission).

We will embed images on glass, create optical devices and construct ephemeral experiences.

Optics in Glass is a fluid combination of visual lectures, demonstrations, practice times, discussion and brainstorming. The course requires reading, studio practice, presentations and classroom participation, including engagement with 3 virtual visiting artists. In addition to supervised work time to troubleshoot experiments, the class offers the expertise of a gaffer (glassblower) for fabrication as well as training in cold working techniques for non-majors to realize ideas.
