Major Studio (Graduate Studies)
Graduate level scholars are generators of content, of original knowledge. We use YOU as the starting point and locus of all inquiries. The course builds your arsenal of tools, methods, metaphors, associations, meanings and stories, to enable a vibrant and prolific artistic practice past your time as a student. The course is designed to support development of your studio practice, leading to mature, rich and relevant bodies of work. There will be particular attention to individual questions and blindspots during studio interactions, an emphasis on constructive critique, articulation of one’s ideas, and building close-knit peer support.
Graduating grads will develop concept, technique and outcome to form a cohesive, interesting and personal thesis. In addition to an Artist Statement, there will be a Thesis Review following a Thesis Talk, which is attended by faculty, graduate students, deans and invited guest critics.
Non-graduating grads will work towards an explosion of ideas and methods in their practice by exploring new material and conceptual processes, while learning to decipher your actions and produce meaningful works based on both intent and happenstance.
