Olfactory spices

My foundation in personal expression, visual arts, material and structure is from growing up in India, where a rich influx of minute, layered stimulations negotiate continually with all of one’s senses. As a result, it comes naturally to involve all our senses in the process of making and exhibiting work.

 

Smell, taste and color have the ability to activate our experience of our environment in unexpected ways. I use that magic to destabilize and inspire. And spices are the perfect vehicle given my intimate cultural exposure to them, the politics of exoticism, and their messy and potent behaviors.
