Professional Practice

Introducing soon-to-graduate students to the myriad ways in which artists make their way through the world after MassArt graduation. Lectures and panel discussions are held by MassArt alumni and other experts to cover a variety of creative roles and practice types. Further discussion of the lectures, including topics raised during the talk, occur in smaller groups or sections of this seminar.

Through discussion, presentations and in-class exercises, we explore issues surrounding the realistic struggles of maintaining life as an independent artist. Students interview artists as well as research methods for balancing art, life and money after school. Students practice writing their artist statement, resumes, presenting work, and establish preliminary research databases for finding internships, jobs, residencies, etc. Professionalism is required of all.
